What
are typical costs for a Shopper Check study?
Studies start from less than £2,000 per store.
This will provide you with a qualitative evaluation of the performance
of your brand and category in a retailer’s store. A typical
quantitative project costs under £10,000. It includes observation
in 1 typical store with 75 -100 interviews. This is exceptionally
good value! This is achieved by focusing the research on ‘need
to know’ rather than ‘nice to know’ data. The
research data required is based on over 10 years of commercial research
into shopping behaviour. Shopper Check is a flexible service that
can be adapted to meet clients’ objectives. You cannot buy
this type of specialist research more cost-effectively.
What types of
studies is Shopper Check suitable for?
Typically Shopper Check is used to meet
several commercial objectives: For category champions, to evaluate
their category performance and advise their retail accounts of any
changes required to meet consumers’ shopping needs. For brand
owners, to evaluate their brand performance within a category and
identify factors that need to be addressed to improve their rate
of sale or return on investment. For test marketing - to conduct
control and test studies to evaluate the POP effectiveness of new
products, new packaging, new merchandising or promotional material
within your existing or new distribution channels.
How do you get
permission to research in stores?
For observation of shopping behaviour
and interviews with shoppers, permission needs to be sought at the
retailer’s HQ. Once agreed in principle, Shopper Insights
will manage the process with store managers to ensure researchers
and CCTV engineers get access to individual stores. For availability
and compliance studies, access is normally agreed directly with
the store manager.
Does the presence of cameras
upset shoppers?
No! Not in the UK. This may culturally
differ between international markets. In the UK observation by CCTV
is culturally acceptable. However, our engineers will always try
to minimise the impact by using miniature cameras placed in discreet
or disguised locations.
How long does a typical study
take?
A typical evaluation study takes 3 -
4 working weeks from commission to debrief. A control and test study
takes 4 weeks if it is a simultaneous study using 1 or more stores
and around 6 weeks if it is a continuous study using 1 store.
Which distribution
channels have you worked in?
We have researched in multiple grocers
- Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Safeway; multiple pharmacies such as
Boots and Superdrug; independent pharmacy and convenience stores,
petrol stations, CTN’s and the on-trade.
Which resources
do you have to handle projects?
We have a force of 300 MRS qualified
interviewers across the UK.
